How to Care For a Tooth After a Filling

Transcript - How to Care for Your Tooth After a Filling

Now that you've had your fillings done, I'd like to discuss what you should do and some precautions to take afterward.

Typically, after getting fillings, you'll experience numbness for about three to four hours. During this time, it's important to be careful not to bite your lip, cheek, or tongue, and avoid sucking on your lip. Just leave everything alone.

It's also normal for your teeth to feel sensitive for the next few days or even weeks following the procedure. By sensitivity, I mean that occasionally, when you're eating, you might notice a brief sensation reminding you of the filling. However, you shouldn't experience constant pain every time you chew or eat something.

If you do notice persistent discomfort, please let me know immediately. These are the precautions you should follow after receiving dental fillings.
