A Brighter Smile for the Stage: Professional Teeth Whitening for a Broadway Performer

He was happy with his smile and didn’t want veneers. He just wanted it brighter. Two weeks of whitening at home and one hour in our office made his teeth five shades whiter.

When James*, a Broadway performer, came to see me, he was generally happy with his smile. He wasn’t interested in veneers. He simply wanted his teeth brighter.

Professional teeth whitening was exactly what he needed. It brightens the smile with very little time invested, and it is completely non-invasive.

His Treatment, Visit by Visit

  1. Exam, cleaning and scan. We examined and cleaned his teeth, and scanned them to make his custom whitening trays.
  2. His custom trays. I made him whitening trays that seal at the gumline, so the whitening gel stays on his teeth and doesn’t spill over and irritate his gums. I also gave him a desensitizing gel to apply before each home session to minimize sensitivity.

At home: two weeks of nightly whitening with his custom trays. He was already very happy with his results.

  1. One-hour in-office deep whitening. The in-office session elevated and sealed his results.

Very Little Sensitivity

Teeth whitening can often make teeth sensitive, but the whitening protocol I use is designed to prevent it. James said he felt very little sensitivity.

The Result: 5 Shades Whiter

BeforeAfter

His teeth whitened five shades, and he had the most radiant smile. He was in love.

And he didn’t have to give up his coffee or red wine. He keeps his results by whitening one night a month and coming in for his cleanings every six months.

Whitening and Insurance

Whitening is cosmetic, so dental insurance usually doesn’t cover it. Most PPO plans do cover the exam and cleaning you have before you whiten. See the PPO plans we accept, and learn more about teeth whitening costs in NYC.

Teeth Whitening Questions

How many shades whiter can my teeth get?

Most of our patients whiten about 5 shades, like James. How bright your teeth can get depends partly on your enamel, because some people naturally have more enamel than others. Dr. Nadia will give you a realistic expectation at your consultation.

Does professional teeth whitening make teeth sensitive?

Whitening can often make teeth sensitive, but the protocol Dr. Nadia uses is designed to prevent it. Custom trays seal at the gumline so the gel stays on your teeth, and you apply a desensitizing gel before each home session. James felt very little sensitivity.

Does teeth whitening damage enamel?

No. When it is done under your dentist’s supervision, professional whitening does not harm your enamel. It does not make your enamel soft, and it does not cause cavities.

How long do teeth whitening results last?

With maintenance, your results can last a lifetime. Whitening one night a month with your custom trays and coming in for cleanings every six months keeps your smile bright.

Can I still drink coffee and red wine after whitening?

Yes. James still enjoys his coffee and red wine. He keeps his results with one night of whitening a month and his regular cleanings.

How long does professional teeth whitening take?

About two weeks of nightly whitening at home with custom trays, followed by one 1-hour whitening session in our office.

Will whitening change the color of my crowns, veneers or bonding?

No. Whitening only lightens natural teeth. If you have crowns, veneers or bonding on your front teeth, talk with Dr. Nadia before you whiten so everything matches.

How much does teeth whitening cost, and does insurance cover it?

Professional whitening at No Limits Dental costs $950 to $2,500, depending on how dark your teeth are when you start. Whitening is cosmetic, so insurance usually does not cover it, but most PPO plans cover the exam and cleaning before your whitening. We accept most major PPO plans.
